July 2008 Newsletter

Our June meeting  was a  lecture by Frank Kay.  Frank showed us an excellent one handed two coin vanish, a "coin roll click pass", his own "continuous coin production", a damningly convincing, completely sleight-of-hand method of passing a drinking straw or whiskey stir through a coin and his impromptu, signed,  torn & restored card that can be performed virtually surrounded, blew all the “hard core card guys”  away.  By the end of the night he had us all rolling coins over our fingers.  Thank you, Frank, and as a member of the club, I’m sure you will continue to amaze us with your inventive ideas.

ACTIVITY:  I’ll Show You Mine If You Show Me Yours

The club has had some great lectures this year.  Then there was an evening where everyone performed something from a magazine or a book.  This month will be “show, and teach a routine”, or your own version, (and or patter) of a tried and true bit, or simply a special move you have discovered.

Earlier this year you were given a form with suggestion of what you would like to have the club provide.  The range of the things for “Teach-Ins” went from silks, to sponge balls, to mentalism, to balloons, to clowning . . . . .  well it ran the gambit.

What do you use regularly in your shows that you believe could be useful to others?  Is there something you would like to know how to perform better?  Magic clubs are a networking environment.  The sharing of knowledge makes each of us better performers and enhances our reputation in a positive light to those who hire us.

So iron those silks, throw some sponge balls in your case, polish up the rings, break out a new deck of cards, oil up that yo-yo, and don’t forget your balloon pump. But most of all bring your knowledge, your questions, and your enthusiasm.

     Questions to Ponder

1) Why do psychics have to ask you for your name?

2) does the little mermaid wear an algebra?

  And toni’s personal question:

3) Why is it called tourist  season if we can’t shoot them?
